Carl Edwards Wins At Phoenix [Full Recap and Results]

This year’s Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix didn’t disappoint excitement-wise, and it was Carl Edwards who ended up getting his first win of the season on Sunday afternoon in the desert–and breaking his 70-race winless streak in the process. The race started with two heavy favorites, Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch, having to start from the rear of the field due to engine problems. By lap 49, Busch was spun around on the racetrack and stuck one lap down. It took nearly 200 laps before he was able to get the Lucky Dog Free Pass. Once back on the lead lap, Busch almost spun again and never really recovered. This race was all about track position, and that should be kept in mind when we visit Phoenix again in the fall.

Other important happenings:

Lap 98 – Ryan Newman hits the wall, was running in the top 10 early but wasn’t great all day.
Lap 140 – Ryan Newman hits the wall again, ending his day.
Lap 186 – Danica Patrick blew a tire and hit the wall hard, collecting David Ragan on the way across the track. They were battling for a mid-20s spot.
Lap 307 – Joey Logano runs out of gas running right outside the top 10.
Lap 309 – Ken Schrader hits the wall with 3 laps to go, giving us a green-white-checkered finish with almost everyone worrying about fuel.
